When it comes to a smoothie diet, there is nothing as refreshing and beneficial as berries. They help weight loss and general well-being. It is often said that there is no easy panacea for perfect good health. This may not, in fact, be true. Okay, it doesn’t come in a pill; but it can be originated from a smoothie diet.
You can shop for berries in any grocery store to get the best of fresh or frozen. You have most of the makings for a delicious drink that will positively impact your health. Losing weight is just one reason to indulge. Another is an illness. Let’s say you have diabetes and can’t eat sweets. You can, however, enjoy berries galore. Plus berries such as strawberries are helpful in lowering blood sugar and insulin levels upon eating a meal. They are loaded with an antioxidant that somehow impacts the enzyme in the body that breaks starch down into simple sugar. When you have less of these sugars in the blood stream, you have a better blood sugar level and insulin response. Since insulin is what moves sugar into fat cells, you will want this known weight loss benefit of a smoothie diet.
Another thing about berries, for example, they fight inflammation and free radicals that damage cells. Eating up to a cup of them a day has been shown in studies to enhance cognitive and motor performance in laboratory animals. One study done by James Joseph, Ph.D., Director of the Neuroscience Lab at the United States Department of Agriculture Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging, located at Tufts University showed that berries protect against aging by turning off inflammation signals.
No one wants belly fat, and if a smoothie diet prevents it, then bring it on. Studies show that rats consuming blueberries had less belly fat, lower blood rats, improved blood sugar and insulin levels, and lower cholesterol. It seems like a blessing in disguise to be applied to humans.
Fiber is a necessary component of any diet to maintain digestive health and wellness. It is essential for weight control as well. As we consume this substance, we burn calories, and it can add up to a lot of pounds over time. Dieticians advise 25 to 35 grams a day to eliminate about 300 calories. Studies in Brazil have shown that adding even one gram more of fiber to one’s intake can result in significant weight loss. The research points to berries, such as raspberries, which have a good ratio of carbohydrate to fiber.
Plus, berries are wonderful for bone density, healthy vision, and as a preventive of cancer, infections, Parkinson’s disease, and more. They, in effect, keep the brain young and healthy!
